Artists in Residence
Every summer, artists from all over the country come to the Rock River Valley in Ogle County to combine art and agriculture in their own unique medium. Part of the uniqueness of Oregon and the Ogle County area has come from its arts.
Artists are invited to live with host farm families for nine days. At their table, artists experience first hand the lifestyle that puts food on our tables, clothes on our backs and even the fuel that goes into our tanks. Farmers are eager to share their way of life and to update what is happening in 21st century agriculture. We hope that artists will express this message in their creations. We seldom realize how closely art and agriculture are interconnected.
Plein air artists have the luxury of working as many hours as they choose, with endless subject matter. As one artist commented, “everywhere I look there is a picture to paint.” During the week, there are tours of our cultural heritage, presentations to attend, and events full of food and fun. But most importantly, are the warm friendships that have been formed and that often last a life time.
All artists will participate in the Art Festival at Oregon Park West in Oregon, Illinois, on Sunday June 24, exhibiting and selling their work. The cost is $375, for your nine-day stay with a host farm family which includes most meals and your participation in our festival. There is an additional $25 non-refundable jurying fee. Payment may be made by check as two separate amounts.
All set up materials will be provided. Transportation arrangements are to be made by the artist. The application deadline is April 20, 2012.
