Community Art Legacy

"The hometown is the dearest place on earth; why not make it more beautiful?" ~ Lorado Taft

Sculpture is a defining element in our community. The impact of sculpture in the Oregon area began with Lorado Taft and the Eagle’s Nest Artists Colony. This legacy affects our community visually, socially, and economically. The Fields Project and inBronze Foundry, Mt. Morris, have joined together to continue building on this tradition through our Community Art Legacy project.

Our goal is both ambitious and attainable. The intent of the program is to place sculptures in prominent locations throughout the Oregon area by installing ten bronze sculptures within a ten year period. The schedule begins by inviting sculptors to enter the CAL sculpture contest by presenting a maquette at the Fields Project Fine Arts Festival June 27, 2010. The winning sculpture is chosen and announced that day. The enlarged sculpture is delivered to inBronze Foundry by November 1, 2010.

We are half way to our goal:

2005 ~ 1st Sculpture

'From The Waters Comes My Bounty' ~ Ray Kobald
Placed at Kiwanis Park

2006 ~ 2nd Sculpture

'Agriculture, Mother of Civilization' ~ David Seagraves
Placed at Ogle County Judicial Center

2007 ~ 3rd Sculpture

'Cornball' ~ Howard Russo
Placed at Oregon Coliseum

2008 ~ 4th Sculpture

'The Bountiful Bench' ~ Christina Murphy
Placed at the Oregon Library

2009 ~ 5th Sculpture

'Solar Reef' ~ Andrew Langoussis
Placed at the Oregon Park West

inBronze Foundry has committed to cast the enlarged piece at no charge, donating the cost of casting the sculpture. Individuals, businesses, corporations or groups can be part of this program by sponsoring the $2,000 artist award, or making contributions to cover the costs associated in making the mold of the original sculpture. The entity that receives each year’s sculpture will be acknowledged for covering all installation costs.

The Fields Project, Inc., is a not-for-profit organization with a 501(c)3 designation granted by the Internal Revenue Service, with the Community Art Legacy, as a subcommittee under The Fields Project.
